Some groups on the political spectrum who offer only complaints: The government is proceeding with the job of economic renewal.
At the budget last week, we made the right choices for Britain, cutting the cost of energy with a £150 reduction in charges, defending public healthcare and addressing the issue of youth deprivation by removing the two-child limit. We also ensured that the funds collected through taxes was done equitably, with all paying their share but those with the broadest shoulders bearing an appropriate burden.
Due to the decisions enacted, the budget established a firmer financial footing, driving down inflation and sovereign debt returns. This is crucial for defending our public services, when one pound in every ten expended by government goes on loan repayments.
Expanding Economic Measures
The announcement strengthens the action we have already taken to enhance economic performance: directing £120bn toward new investments in such things as transportation and power infrastructure; introducing significant overhaul measures in a generation to back builders, not blockers; supporting the expansion of Heathrow and Gatwick; and signing trade deals with the EU, India and the US.
Collectively, these have allowed us to exceed our growth forecasts.
Revitalizing Our Country
As I explained at the party conference, the government’s purpose is nothing less than the renewal of our economy, our communities and our state. Through this approach, we will end decline and restore faith in our country.
We will take on those on the left and right who only offer dissatisfaction and whose approach would lead to continued weakening. Let me be clear, turning on the borrowing taps or returning us to austerity – that is the politics of decline and I will not accept it.
A Comprehensive Growth Mission
Through remarks coming soon, I will situate the financial plan within the broader financial revitalization on which the government will be evaluated upon conclusion of this parliament.
To accomplish the nationwide rejuvenation we seek, we must do more to stimulate expansion, to combat unemployment among young people and to pursue closer international cooperation with our trading partners.
Bureaucracy Reduction Effort
Our development strategy will include a reinforced attention on eliminating needless bureaucracy. Frequently it was those on the left who have preferred controls, but there is nothing progressive in regulations which merely act to raise the cost of living for the poorest, to slow down economic growth unnecessarily, or stop a progressive administration achieving its aims.
Hence the rationale I am asking the business secretary to confront the variety of pointless gold-plating and superfluous bureaucracy that raise expenditures and impede our industrial strategy.
Benefits System Overhaul
Economic renewal also demands that we must continue to overhaul social security. We inherited a failing system that caused youngsters to lack basic nutrition and which dismissed adolescents as incapable of employment.
We cannot tolerate either part of that unsuccessful conservative approach. That is why we will do more to assist youth in realizing their capabilities.
Since when individuals are overlooked in your early career, if you are denied the assistance you need to address psychological challenges, or if you are just discounted because you are experiencing cognitive variations or handicaps, then it can imprison you in a loop of unemployment and reliance for decades.
This costs the country money, is bad for our productivity, but far more significantly, it removes potential and overlooks capability. Any progressive administration worthy of the name cannot ignore that.
Hence the explanation we have tasked a previous healthcare official to make actionable suggestions to help young people with medical issues obtain employment, training or education – making certain they get help to succeed instead of excluded.
Worldwide Business Development
Ultimately, we must take further action to help our businesses trade internationally. No believable commercial perspective for Britain that does not establish us as a accessible, commercial nation.
We have to address the reality that the poorly executed departure agreement significantly hurt our economy. You do not need to have a PhD in economics to know that establishing superfluous business impediments with your biggest trading partner will hurt growth and raise the cost of living.
Therefore a component of our economic renewal will be maintaining progress in the direction of a enhanced business association with the EU. When we can access more affordable sustenance, boost growth and create jobs by having a closer relationship with the EU, we should.
A Meaningful Approach for Major Issues
A financial plan founded on equitable decisions for Britain must be reinforced with commitment to achieve the economic renewal that the country needs.
Through implementing a substantial, courageous extended strategy, not a set of short-term remedies, we will revitalize the nation. We should evolve anew a substantial population, with a important leadership, able collectively to undertake challenging tasks to regain control of our future.
Through maintaining a distinct purpose to renew our economy, our communities and our state, we will implement the transformation we pledged – and then be evaluated based on it during the upcoming vote.
