Former National Football League Star Antonio Brown Files Not Guilty Plea in Murder Attempt Case
Ex- National Football League player Antonio Brown is returning to Miami to face an murder attempt accusation connected with a shooting that took place in May, as his attorney entering a not guilty plea on his behalf.
Jail documents in Essex, New Jersey, reveal that Brown was freed on Tuesday early for his relocation to Florida. Brown, one of the most popular players in the NFL, had relinquished extradition to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was held after being apprehended in Dubai.
Brown’s counsel, Mark Eiglarsh, said in an email that he has already filed a formal innocent response to the murder attempt accusation. Brown could be in a Miami courtroom as early as Wednesday early for a bail session, Eiglarsh added.
Based on his arrest document, Brown is accused of grabbing a handgun from a protection staffer after a celebrity fighting contest in May and discharging a couple of rounds at a person he had clashed with earlier. The claimed victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told police that one of the bullets touched his nape.
Eiglarsh asserted that Brown was merely defending himself from Nantambu.
“The steps he was compelled to take were exclusively in defense against the claimed victim’s violent actions. Brown was attacked that evening and acted within his legal right to safeguard himself,” Eiglarsh said.
Brown was not promptly detained because originally police did not identify Nantambu as a target. It wasn’t until later in May that Nantambu provided a full testimony about the situation to officers and pointed out Brown as the shooter, the affidavit says.
From his digital content, Brown had been residing in Dubai for a number of weeks. In a message after the confrontation, Brown stated he was defending himself because he was “jumped by several people who attempted to steal my possessions and cause bodily damage to me.”
A second-degree murder attempt allegation in the state of Florida carries a highest 15-year incarceration term and up to a $10,000 fee in the event of a finding.
Brown has dealt with numerous judicial problems over the period. He earlier had been charged of physical attack of a delivery driver, several family violence charges, failure to pay family payments and additional incidents.
In a 2021 season game with the Buccaneers against the opponents, Brown removed his shirt, shoulder pads and accessories and ran off the field, leading to his termination by the team and virtually concluding his NFL career.
Brown, who spent twelve years in the National Football League, was an top-tier player who devoted most of his tenure with Pittsburgh. For his professional life, Brown had over 900 catches for above 12,291 yards, the 28th greatest of history. He was a 7-time Pro Bowl pick.
