Air travel have resumed at Edinburgh Airport following a significant air traffic control outage brought the international hub to a standstill.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped after an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.

A number of travelers found themselves stranded in planes on the runway as the outage continued.

Services Recommence with Ongoing Delays

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

That said, ongoing issues are likely to affect schedules. Flights to key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been cancelled, with a host of additional flights experiencing delays.

Officials had initially projected that dozens of flights could be impacted.

"Travelers are urged to check directly with their airline for the current status on their booked journeys," the statement added.

Root of the Disruption

Officials linked the full ground stop to an systems failure with its air traffic control provider.

Passengers should still plan to verify the schedule of their flight before heading to the airport as backlogs are cleared.
