Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Intense Discussions Regarding AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers launched a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough format but features a few notable changes:
- Each team includes just 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions done by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, this mode delivers on its name: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for players looking for alternative ways to enjoy the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are mad.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while another lists all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," states another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Community Feedback
Despite the support, there are valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists due to the sheer number of options currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
